Bio


Stan Nord is a long-time resident of the Bloomington-Normal community. He is married to his beautiful wife, Bree, and has two young boys. He grew up on a farm, raising crops and Charolais cattle, and routinely accompanied his father and grandfather on rotating "rounds" at local hospitals. His family has been involved in the creation of many small businesses in the community for more than six generations, including farming, medicine, the landfill, waste hauling, recycling, alternative energy, and others.
Stan attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School, Parkside Junior High, and Normal Community High School. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating with a degree in Risk Management and Finance. He is a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Stan spent several years working in the finance and insurance industry then enjoyed a career in information technology (IT) in the Chicago land area. He spent part of his IT career with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) where he saw firsthand how waste, overspending, and inefficiencies inherent in government contrast with the more efficient operations and continuous improvement potential in corporate environments.

Stan and his wife settled in Bloomington-Normal when they started their family. They returned here not only because they have extended family in the area, but also because of everything the community offers for them and their two children—they feel Bloomington-Normal is a great place to raise a family.

Stan has successfully started several local small businesses. He has served as a Cub Scout den leader, helping the scouts learn about nature, their community, and some of the jobs within Bloomington-Normal. Stan especially appreciates the amount of support local businesses, labor unions, police departments, and fire departments give to the Cub Scout youth.

Influenced by his father’s career as a family physician, Stan developed the mindset when someone needs help, drop what you are doing and help. This is how he has lived his life. Stan decided to serve on the Normal Town Council to get involved with the Town’s spending choices and be a voice for his community. He wants to help the Town enact decisions that will continue to make Normal a great place for families and for businesses.
